Curriculum Structure
Year 1
Students develop a strong foundation through subjects such as Introductory Epidemiology, Introductory Biostatistics, Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Influences on Health. They also study Health and Safety Risk Management, Leadership and Governance, Psychosocial Work Environment, Workplace Hazards: Measurement and Management and Humans, Work and Physical Hazards, building practical skills to identify and manage workplace and environmental risks.
Year 2
Students completing the full-time 1.5-year pathway move into more advanced and applied study through either a research or coursework pathway. The research pathway includes Research Methods, Safety Management Systems and the Advanced Health Practice Research Project, while coursework options include subjects such as Corporate Sustainability Regulation, Planetary Health, Qualitative Research Methods and Injury Epidemiology and Prevention.

The course is held at Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, with on-campus and multi-modal study options; international students can study only in the on-campus mode, which combines online learning with on-site teaching.
Australian bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a non-cognate discipline with at least 50% average, plus 1 year of work experience in occupational health and/or safety; a current CV highlighting this experience is required.

English Language Requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each band) or TOEFL iBT 79 overall (minimum Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, Writing 21) / 4 overall on the 1–6 scale (minimum Reading 3.5, Listening 3, Speaking 3.5, Writing 4.5).
