Program Overview

The Global Health Care (Leading Quality and Safety) specialisation aims to advance knowledge of clinical governance and the processes involved in achieving continuous quality improvement in global health care. The World Health Organisation (WHO) Patient Safety Curriculum and the Australian National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS) inform the curriculum content. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on, and explore, and critically analyse the complexity of the issues associated with the principles of quality and safety in health care, from Australian and international perspectives. The curriculum includes the nature of health care error including quality indicators, the role of effective communication and the methods of error detection and monitoring. Students will: develop an understanding of clinical governance, accountability and systems management; have considered methods for improving healthcare such as applying clinical research into practice, clinical practice guidelines and clinical practice improvement.
