Program Overview

The Master of Public Health Extension (Indigenous Health) at the University of Wollongong provides advanced public health education with a focus on Indigenous health. The two-year program allows students to develop foundational public health knowledge and specialise in areas including Indigenous health, public health practice, research, social systems, big data, and climate and environment.

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1: Covers four foundational public health subjects, followed by specialised study in Indigenous Health and related public health areas.

Year 2: Develops advanced knowledge through further specialisation and/or public health electives, with opportunities for work-integrated learning and practical placements through the Public Health Practice specialisation.

Focus Areas: Indigenous Health, Public Health, Social Determinants of Health, Cultural Determinants of Health, Indigenous Research, Health Evaluation, Health Equity and Community Health.

Learning Outcomes: Develop knowledge of Indigenous health needs, apply culturally informed approaches, understand social and cultural determinants of health, and use appropriate research and evaluation methods to address public health challenges.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation): UOW is seeking accreditation with the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA). The course also provides opportunities for work-integrated learning and practical placements.

Reputation (Employability): The program prepares graduates for opportunities in Indigenous health, health promotion, public health research, health and wellbeing, social policy, public health advocacy and project management.

IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with minimum 6.0 in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
TOEFL iBT overall 86 with Reading and Writing 22 and Listening and Speaking 19.
PTE Academic overall 62 with minimum 62 in each communicative skill.
Public Health Research specialisation requires a minimum WAM 75 and Academic Program Director approval.
