Program Overview

The Master of Public Health Extension (Public Health Research) at the University of Wollongong is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program designed to provide advanced public health knowledge with a strong research focus. The program combines foundational public health study with specialised research training and supervised public health research.

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1: Covers the four core public health subjects: Foundations in Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Public Health, Public Health Methods, and Health Economics, Policy and Promotion, followed by additional public health study.

Year 2: Focuses on advanced public health research through the Public Health Research specialisation, allowing students to design and conduct a small public health research project under supervision, alongside additional elective or specialisation study.

Focus Areas: Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health Methods, Health Economics, Health Policy, Health Promotion, Research Methods, Population Health and Public Health Research.

Learning Outcomes: Graduates will develop advanced skills to analyse public health issues, apply quantitative and qualitative research methods, evaluate health interventions, translate evidence into policy and practice, and design, conduct and communicate public health research.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation): UOW is seeking accreditation with the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA). Graduates may also apply for membership of the Australian Health Promotion Association and the Public Health Association of Australia.
