University of WollongongThe Master of Public Health at the University of Wollongong is a flexible one-year program for students who want to build advanced knowledge and practical skills to address public health challenges affecting communities locally and around the world. Students develop a strong foundation in public health while having the flexibility to explore areas such as Climate and Environment, Big Data and Decision Science, Indigenous Health, Public Health Practice, Public Health Research and Social Systems.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1: Students build their core public health knowledge through subjects such as Foundations in Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Public Health, Public Health Methods, and Health Economics, Policy and Promotion. They can then tailor their studies through electives or a chosen specialisation and complete an option such as the MPH Capstone, Public Health Placement or Major Project, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical or research settings.

A bachelor’s degree (AQF 7 or recognised equivalent) plus a relevant one-year honours degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, master’s or higher degree, with a minimum WAM of 65%.
A relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum WAM of 65% plus significant professional or volunteer experience equivalent to two years of full-time work.
An MBBS or Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree of at least four years’ duration is also accepted.
A UOW Graduate Certificate in Public Health with a minimum WAM of 65% can provide entry; applicants who do not meet the requirements may be offered the Graduate Certificate as a pathway.
Entry to the Public Health Research specialisation requires a minimum WAM of 75%; qualifications in other disciplines may also be considered.
English language requirements are IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall (Reading 4.5, Writing 4.5, Listening 4.0, Speaking 3.5) for tests taken from 21 January 2026; for earlier TOEFL iBT tests, the requirement is 86 overall, with 22 in Reading and Writing and 19 in Listening and Speaking.
