Program Overview

The Master of Research (Law and Justice) is a 2-year full-time postgraduate research degree designed to develop advanced research skills, specialised knowledge, and the ability to conduct independent research. Students can undertake research across areas including business, computer science, engineering, law and justice, education, health, humanities, mathematics, psychology, and more.

Curriculum Structure:

In the first year, students develop their research foundation through Research Design and Methodologies and either Qualitative Research Techniques or Statistics for Quantitative Researchers, while beginning their supervised research project.

In the second year, students continue their independent research project, analysing findings and developing their final research outcomes. The degree requires 16 units, with the majority dedicated to the Masters Research Project.

Focus Areas: Research methodology, independent research, data analysis, academic research, applied research, and specialised research within the student's chosen discipline.

Learning Outcomes: Design and conduct independent research, critically evaluate evidence, apply advanced research methods, analyse complex problems, develop original findings, and communicate research outcomes effectively.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation): The Master of Research is a higher degree by research that develops advanced research expertise and provides a pathway to further doctoral study. It is not a professional accreditation for legal practice or another specific profession.

Reputation (Employability Rankings): Students work with experienced supervisors and can access UniSQ's research centres, industry partnerships, and research facilities. An optional industry internship can also provide professional networking and practical research experience.

Experiential Learning: Students undertake a substantial independent research project under academic supervision and may complete an industry internship relevant to their research area.
