In the first year, students build advanced chemistry knowledge and practical laboratory skills through Laboratory Techniques and Scientific Reporting (KRA521) and choose a specialisation. The Synthesis and Materials Science stream includes Organic and Inorganic Chemistry (KRA531) and Catalysis and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry (KRA542), while the Analytical and Environment stream includes Physical and Analytical Chemistry (KRA532) and Environmental Monitoring and Remediation (KRA540).

Year 2

The second year focuses on advanced research, experimental practice and independent investigation. Students undertake units such as Literature Review: Chemistry (KRA711), Research Methods Laboratory Practice (KRA712) and Addressing Problems in Chemistry: Planning and Presentation (KRA713), followed by a substantial research project and Chemistry Research Thesis A and B (KRA708/KRA709), where they analyse experimental results and defend their findings

Focus Areas: Research methodologies, advanced chemical analysis, environmental chemistry, materials science.
