Program Overview

The Master of Journalism program offers advanced professional education in journalism as practised in all major media: newspapers, magazines, broadcasting and new media. Graduates will be well prepared for employment in news organizations across Canada and beyond, or as freelancers. Students receive a thorough grounding in advanced analytical and research skills and a sophisticated understanding of the complex and fundamentally important relationship between journalism and the society in which it is practised. The program emphasizes innovative approaches to journalistic practice, preparing graduates to adapt to and lead the new developments that will change the practices of journalism over the course of their careers. Optional coursesprovide opportunities to specialize in specific forms of journalism and in additional subject areas. Over all, the program's goal is to combine high standards of practice and informed critical reflection in order to produce better-educated journalists and better journalism.
