Program Overview

The School of Social Work at King s University College, affiliated with Western University, offers a Direct Practice Master of Social Work (MSW) program on a full-time basis. The program is course-based with an advanced practicum (450+ hours in each year of the program). Students are admitted to the program each September. Social work is concerned with individual and personal problems but also with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and domestic violence. The uniqueness of social work practice is in the blend of particular values, knowledge and skills, including the use of relationship as the basis of all interventions, counselling, and respect for the client s choice and involvement.

Completion of an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree, Successful completion of a course in Research Methods, A minimum average of 70% in academic courses taken in the last two years of full-time study during the undergraduate degree, or the last 20 half-courses in part-time study, Verification of completion of academic requirements must be available by August 31, TOEFL ibT of 100 with no individual score below 23, IELTS of 7 out of 9 with no individual score below 6.5, MELAB of 85 with at least 80 on each of the sections , CAEL of 70 with 70 in both writing and speaking, Western English Language Centre- successful completion of the High-Advanced level, CultureWorks- successful completion of the High-Advanced level, Fanshawe College s ESL Program- graduation from Level 5, Advanced Academic Preparation, with a minimum 80% in all components
