Program Overview

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies) and phenomena that originate outside the Earth's atmosphere (such as the cosmic background radiation). To understand universe around us Astronomy needs a lot of different tools that can be developed in sciences like electrical engineering, chemistry, optical science, physics, computer science, biology and many others. Simulation has become one of the most important technologies for astronomy. The department offers programs in both physics and astronomy leading to MSc and PhD degrees. We have a vibrant core faculty of 30 researchers covering the areas of astronomy, condensed matter physics, medical physics, atmospheric physics and planetary science.
