MS Meteorology and Climatology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Chile

Program Overview

As part of Earth Sciences, meteorology and climatology seek to describe, understand and model the natural processes that occur in the Earth's atmosphere. To do this, these sciences use observational methods, statistical techniques, and physico-mathematical models of the behavior of the atmosphere. The complexity of the climate system, along with the inherent difficulty of observing and measuring natural processes of multiple scales, poses formidable challenges that atmospheric sciences solve by integrating theory with numerical modeling and analysis of data acquired with observational systems of varying degrees of sophistication. The location of our country, covering much of the western margin of South America, with a diversity of geographic and climatic conditions,The Master in Meteorology and Climatology (MMC) of the University of Chile is the only national postgraduate program with a focus on atmospheric sciences. Its emphasis is on understanding the physical foundations underlying atmospheric processes at different spatial and temporal scales,as well as on quantifying these processes through observations, data analysis, and mathematical diagnostic and prognostic models.
