Program Overview

The field of study Ecology puts emphasis on basic biological education in the field, ie on the preparation of students in the areas of superorganism biology. It has no ambition to substitute teaching in environmental issues or the management of natural resources; it is not primarily focused on applied topics. The study program is offered in the form of two subjects: Hydrobiology and Terrestrial Ecology. The graduate is equipped both for further scientific preparation and independent research work in the field, as well as for professional and methodological (not legislative) work in the areas of ecological expertise, analyzes and monitoring in the state administration and the private sector.

Program Overview

The graduates of Ecology subject acquire theoretical knowledge and practical (methodic) skills covering all common ecological concepts, and within this framework, they achieve a specific education in terrestrial and aquatic domains, encompassing all structural levels from molecular ecology, autecology, intra- and interpopulation interactions, towards large-scale ecology (communities, ecosystems, phylgeography). They are able to use recent analytical approaches of quantitative ecological data. The graduate is well prepared either to highly demanding research work including the relevant PhD study, or to professional and methodical (but legislative) work as in surveys, analyses or monitoring for state, public or commercial administration.
