Program Overview

The follow-up master's study program Czech language and literature offers the teaching of specialized subjects in linguistics, literary history and theory. After completing the compulsory and compulsory optional subjects, you will complete your previous bohemian education, decide on another specialization and deepen your practical skills, or you decide on doctoral studies (Ph.D.). In the linguistics part of the study, you will get to know linguistic disciplines such as historical lexicology and etymology, quantitative linguistics or the development of thinking about literary language. You will get an overview of the history of linguistics and current linguistic trends. In the literary studies part, you will get to know the history of literature in a wider, global and comparative context, you will get to know older Czech literature, regional literature and current trends in literary studies, including through lectures by prominent domestic and foreign experts visiting the University of Ostrava. You will try editorial work and practice writing journalistic and professional texts of various genres. You will also learn about the possibilities of connecting linguistics with literary science and the application of linguistic approaches to the analysis of literary texts.
