Program Overview

German studies, as one of the fields of philology, is primarily focused on the knowledge of the language and literature of German-speaking countries. The goal of the master's degree is to deepen and expand knowledge in the field of linguistics and literary science within the framework of linguistic and national-cultural boundaries. A characteristic feature of the study is the emphasis on interdisciplinarity, which leads the student to deepen his reflections on the functions and forms of language, on literature and the values of art and culture in general, taking into account the distinctive features of German and Austrian culture as well as German culture from Bohemia and Moravia, history, thought and politics. During the course of study, students will become familiar with the wider context of individual Germanistic disciplines; in the field of linguistics, among others, the diachronic aspects of language research, advanced levels of syntax, lexicology, and stylistics are predominantly synchronic in perspective
