Phytopathology is a biological scientific field dealing with the study of interactions between plants and their pathogens and pests, followed by plant diseases (caused by biotic agents or abiotic factors). This field has a distinctly multidisciplinary character and integrates knowledge from scientific fields such as mycology, bacteriology, virology, zoology, herbology, plant physiology and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, ecology, pedology, etc.
