Learning Outcomes:
Graduates develop the ability to plan and design complex landscapes at different scales, evaluate environmental and visual impacts, conserve and restore cultural landscapes, apply research methods, and prepare professional landscape design proposals. They also gain knowledge of professional practice and entrepreneurship.
Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
The programme provides an academic foundation for entering the landscape architecture profession. The university's published programme information identifies pathways towards professional accreditation through the Estonian Union of Landscape Architects (EMAL) and other national professional bodies recognising IFLA requirements. Professional accreditation is subject to the relevant body's education, experience, and assessment requirements.
Reputation (Employability):
The programme offers an international learning environment with English-language instruction and practical studio-based education. Students learn from academic staff with international professional and research experience, while working on landscape projects connected to real locations and environmental challenges.
The programme places strong emphasis on practical learning, with more than half of teaching and learning taking place through design studios and practical planning activities.
Landscape Design Studios: Students work individually and in groups on landscape planning and design projects, receiving guidance and feedback from academic tutors.
Real-World Design Projects: Studio projects use actual locations and may involve active planning projects proposed by external organisations.
Outdoor Recreation Projects: Students develop planning and design proposals for sensitive natural environments, including forests, lakes, and wetlands.
Landscape Design and Construction: Students develop landscape projects from initial concepts through detailed design, incorporating professional feedback.
Mandatory Internship: Students complete practical training with private or public organisations, gaining experience in professional landscape architecture practice.
Field Trips: Students visit forests, natural environments, urban spaces, and other landscape locations across Estonia to examine real-world conditions and collect research materials.
Master's Thesis: Students complete an individual research project or a comprehensive landscape design project according to their academic interests and professional goals.
Graduates can pursue professional careers in landscape architecture, planning, environmental design, and landscape management in Estonia and internationally.
Professional Practice: Opportunities to work in private landscape architecture and planning offices, design consultancies, and independent professional practice.
Public-Sector Employment: Graduates can pursue positions in municipalities, government organisations, and public agencies involved in landscape planning and development.
Environmental and Landscape Management: Opportunities in landscape conservation, restoration, environmental assessment, and sustainable landscape development.
Professional Accreditation: Graduates may pursue professional recognition through relevant national landscape architecture organisations, subject to their education and professional experience requirements.
Research and Academia: The degree provides a foundation for further academic study and doctoral research in landscape architecture and related environmental fields.
International Opportunities: Graduates can explore employment and professional development opportunities in landscape architecture and planning organisations in Estonia and abroad.
