Program Overview

The subject of history studies and explores the past extensively from many different angles. The focus is on local and global history, the history of different groups of people, the interaction between people and the environment, and the use of history in society. Studying history offers perspectives on evaluating current issues and social change processes. Research and education focus particularly on cultural interaction, the environment and health, and on northern identities, societies and communities. During studies, students develop the ability to critically evaluate interpretations of history and to conduct research themselves. The student specializes in a research topic of his or her own interest and obtains a solid and wide-ranging foundation for different careers.
