MA Musicology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Wurzburg

Program Overview

The discipline of musicology, which has existed since the late 19th century, deals with all questions relating to music and its manifestations from different perspectives. In doing so, it is in constant interaction and closely related to musical practice, which constantly provides research in the past and present with new impulses and content, while in turn being influenced by musicology. Traditionally, musicology as a humanities and cultural science is divided into three sub-disciplines that differ in terms of methodology and content without being sharply differentiated today: historical and systematic musicology and ethnomusicology.
