Program Overview

English linguistics linguistics deals with the properties and manifestations of the English language on the basis of scientific methods and theories. The central contents are, on the one hand, the description of the essential structural levels of language related to contemporary language - sentence structure, formation of forms, vocabulary structure lexicology and lexicography, phonetics phonetics and phonology and meaning - and on the other hand the historical development of the language. Building on this, numerous sub-disciplines turn to current, interdisciplinary and application-related topics sociolinguistics, pragmatics, first and second language acquisition, language contact, corpus linguistics, technical languages, etc.

Degree or university entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution must demonstrate basic knowledge of the German language by the end of the first year of study at the latest, proof must be provided through language courses basic courses totaling at least 120 hours of instruction, evidence of English language skills must be provided that corresponds to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference CEFR, General higher education entrance qualification, subject-related higher education entrance qualification or professional qualification, School-leaving certificate including transcript of grades, Certificate of University entrance exam, Certificate of studies transcript of records, degree, Copy of passport /identity card, Curriculum Vitae in tabular form primarily academic records Proof of German proficiency: can apply directly for a degree course if you provide proof a German level of at least B2, Exception: Applicants for Medicine, Dentistry and Molecular Medicine must prove German at at least level C1, International applicants who do not have direct entrance to higher education in Germany because their previous school and study achievements are not considered equivalent to the German Abitur can prepare specifically for their studies at the Studienkolleg
