Program Overview

The aim of the new master's course General and Comparative Linguistics is to impart essential content, ie theories and results, and methods of the subject General and Comparative Linguistics AVS. These include a functionally oriented language typology and language theory including grammatical theory/grammatical models and semiotics, historical linguistics language change, grammaticalization, language contact, the descriptive linguistics of an individual language here a European language and the more methodically oriented areas of language documentation endangered languages. and corpus linguistics including statistics. All of these areas have developed rapidly in the last 30 years - some such as language documentation only came about in the 1990s - and are part of the canon of general and comparative linguistics. The AVS master's program therefore represents an opportunity for AVS Bachelors graduates to deepen their knowledge and methodological skills in this subject on the one hand and to expand the content listed on the other.

University degree of 180 CP of which at least 30 CP should have been completed in the field of linguistics and an average grade of at least 2.7, General higher education entrance qualification, subject-related higher education entrance qualification or professional qualification, School-leaving certificate including transcript of grades, Certificate of University entrance exam, Certificate of studies transcript of records, degree, Copy of passport /identity card, Curriculum Vitae in tabular form primarily academic records Proof of German proficiency: can apply directly for a degree course if you provide proof a German level of at least B2, Exception: Applicants for Medicine, Dentistry and Molecular Medicine must prove German at at least level C1, International applicants who do not have direct entrance to higher education in Germany because their previous school and study achievements are not considered equivalent to the German Abitur can prepare specifically for their studies at the Studienkolleg
