Program Overview

The aim of the new master's course General and Comparative Linguistics is to impart essential content, ie theories and results, and methods of the subject General and Comparative Linguistics AVS. These include a functionally oriented language typology and language theory including grammatical theory/grammatical models and semiotics, historical linguistics language change, grammaticalization, language contact, the descriptive linguistics of an individual language here a European language and the more methodically oriented areas of language documentation endangered languages. and corpus linguistics including statistics. All of these areas have developed rapidly in the last 30 years - some such as language documentation only came about in the 1990s - and are part of the canon of general and comparative linguistics. The AVS master's program therefore represents an opportunity for AVS Bachelors graduates to deepen their knowledge and methodological skills in this subject on the one hand and to expand the content listed on the other.
