MSc in Meteorology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Program Overview

Meteorology studies the earth's atmosphere. In order to improve their understanding of the processes in the atmosphere and enable them to make predictions, meteorologists develop physical-mathematical models. They also observe and measure all processes taking place in the atmosphere and evaluate the data using mathematical methods. Sub-areas of the subject include experimental and theoretical meteorology, as well as synoptics (large-scale recording of current weather processes). Medium states and their long-term changes in the atmosphere are investigated by climate research. The chemistry of the atmosphere has developed into a major branch of meteorology over the past few decades. Related academic fields include physics, mathematics, oceanography, geophysics, and chemistry. Research focus areas at Mainz University: Atmospheric microphysics, atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric dynamics, trace substance dynamics, earth system modeling, cloud dynamics
