Geophysics studies the interior of the earth and the interplanetary space in the vicinity of the earth. From ocean basins and continents to mountains and volcanoes, this department at the Christian-Albrechts-Universit t zu Kiel (CAU) deals with the structure and formation of all levels of the terrestrial lithosphere. Geophysics represents the concept of global plate tectonics. The physico-chemical processes as well as the natural resources and habitats in and on the earth are also the subject of this subject.
