Program Overview

The Italian course trains students in the methodical and theoretical analysis of the Italian language and literature in their media-related and historical contexts. It includes the sub-areas practical language, linguistics, literature, and culture. The aim of the course is to enable students to work independently in the academic field and to develop communicative, cultural, and media competences as key skills for a wide range of professions. The practical language component focuses on developing reading, listening, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as on strategies for language acquisition, use, and teaching. The linguistics component of the course focuses on teaching students the basic principles, theories, and methods of general linguistics, linguistics for the romance languages, and linguistics for Italian in particular.
