MA Prehistoric and Early Historical Archaeology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Wurzburg

Program Overview

Prehistoric and early historical archeology researches the living conditions, social structures and imaginary worlds of past communities from the first appearance of humans to the beginning of their own historiography (99.9% of the entire history of mankind,). The sources of our subject consist of traces of human activities that have been preserved in the ground. We get to the bottom of these traces with the most modern methods and technology - although we research the past, we are an innovative and interdisciplinary science. The spatial focus of our chair is on Central Europe with the adjacent cultural landscapes extending into the Mediterranean region; the chronological focus is on the more recent prehistory, i.e. the Neolithic Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
