Program Overview

The master's program Ancient History - Classical Studies offers a comprehensive examination of ancient history and its related subjects. For this purpose, a deeper insight into the ancient sources is conveyed and the independent handling of them is encouraged. On this basis, the ability to critically examine modern research literature and the various theoretical discourses and methods of the subject are taught. The individual courses reflect the research of the lecturers at the Chair of Ancient History and the current scientific discussion. In the context of a considered examination of the sources and the current research opinions, the students should reach critical and independent judgments.

Degree BA in ancient history or a related subject in the fields of classical studies or history with an average grade of at least 2.5, Latinum and Graecum, Knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, Proof of a first subject-related degree BA, Evidence of at least 60 credits in history, including at least 25 credits in ancient history OR evidence of at least 90 credits in ancient/classical studies, including at least 35 credits in ancient history, Proof of Latinum, Evidence of the Graecum, Proof of sufficient knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference CEFR, meaningful CV, for applicants who did not acquire their university entrance qualification or their first degree at a German-speaking educational institution: proof of German language skills at the level of the German language test for university admission for foreign applicants DSH-2,
