Program Overview

The subject of the master's program are the material legacies of ancient Greek and Roman cultures from the 2nd millennium to the end of antiquity in the 6th century AD. These also include a considerable number of works whose high artistic rank was considered exemplary in all later epochs. The aim of classical archeology is to reconstruct ancient cultural and intellectual history through the ages. Christian and Byzantine archeology deals with the culture and material legacies from late antiquity to the Byzantine Middle Ages in the provinces of the Roman Empire 4th-7th centuries and in the Mediterranean region 4th-15th centuries. The subjects of teaching and research are the core themes of art painting, sculpture, treasure and small art, iconography and architecture church buildings, palace and secular architecture of early Christianity and Byzantium.

Additional Information & Requirements

"Bachelors degree in the field of ""Archaeological Sciences"" with a minimum grade of 3.0 or 7.9 grade points, with one of the following focal points: Classic Archaeology, Christian Archeology and Byzantine Art History or a comparable degree from another university in Germany or abroad. Bachelors degree programs in other subject areas of classical studies, Knowledge of two modern foreign languages, including English and either French or Italian or Spanish, is required. Modern foreign languages must be proven at level B1, Application for admission, Proof of completion of a relevant Bachelors degree program or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professionally qualifying university degree, curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, proof of suitability or aptitude, German Language Proficiency Level DSH-2, TestDaF certificate with at least 4 points in all examination sections, Assessment test at preparatory college Studienkolleg with Pr fungsteil Deutsch passed, German language diploma from the Education Ministry Conference Second Level DSD II with C1 in all examination sections, Goethe certificate C2: Major German language diploma GDS, SD C2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, School diploma which is equivalent to a German university entrance entitlement if the language of instruction was German, Foreign school certificates mentioned in Zugang von ausl ndischen Studienbewerbern mit ausl ndischem Bildungsnachweis zum Studium an deutschen Hochschule"
