Program Overview

The subject of the master's program are the material legacies of ancient Greek and Roman cultures from the 2nd millennium to the end of antiquity in the 6th century AD. These also include a considerable number of works whose high artistic rank was considered exemplary in all later epochs. The aim of classical archeology is to reconstruct ancient cultural and intellectual history through the ages. Christian and Byzantine archeology deals with the culture and material legacies from late antiquity to the Byzantine Middle Ages in the provinces of the Roman Empire 4th-7th centuries and in the Mediterranean region 4th-15th centuries. The subjects of teaching and research are the core themes of art painting, sculpture, treasure and small art, iconography and architecture church buildings, palace and secular architecture of early Christianity and Byzantium.
