2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Anthropology is a research-oriented course of study, the central theme of which is biological anthropology with a focus on evolution and diversity. Anthropology is the key issue to the diversity of people, their ancestors, and related species in space and time. Our interest includes the whole divergence of primates, from the origin to present-day species. Another focus is the biology of the human population in prehistoric times. Current molecular genetic and biostatistic methods are theoretically and experimentally taught in the research and teaching focus of primatology, paleoanthropology and population genetics. In addition, archaeometric techniques and scientific archaeological methods are taught on the course. The course maintains a proximity to human medicine and human genetics, which focus on clinically relevant diversity, as well as a proximity to genome research and bioinformatics.
