Program Overview

The two-year interdisciplinary master s degree program Central Asian Studies focuses on the present and recent history of Tibet, Mongolia, Sinkiang, Afghanistan and the central Asian GUS States of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Students can approach regional topics via a diversity of academic disciplines. Amongst others, they achieve competences in historical, cultural, political or geographical methods. During the course of the master's degree program, they acquire language skills and focus on an area or discipline of their choice. In the process they learn to independently raise questions, debate, develop solutions and communicate them on an academic level. Students are encouraged to spend a part of their university studies abroad either in Central Asia or in other countries.
