Complex social challenges increasingly require inter dis ci plin ary solutions: Complex conflict structures and wars in the in ter na tio nal system, questions of power configurations and of the legitimacy and efficiency of political systems have become central social challenges as have ethical aspects in scientific, social and individual contexts -- for example with regard to euthanasia, the application of re search innovations in preimplantation genetic diagnostics or the use of nuclear energy.
