Masters in Human Ecology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Eotvos Lorand University

Program Overview

In this course1 we train professionals to interpret sociocultural processes from an ecological perspective1 to examine the social dimension of environmental problems1 and to explore the interactions between natural and social systems. The terms ecology and human ecology have come to be used in the social sciences in a sense different from the natural sciences. As a thematic innovation1 they primarily refer to the increased consideration of the system contexts of the living world and the resulting mutual determinations1 which is coupled with a system-based1 relationship- and communication-centered approach that emphasizes the importance of organizational levels above the individual. This approach gained unavoidable scientific importance as a result of the global ecological crisis that unfolded at the turn of the second millennium1 both in social theory1 as in the various fields of planning and organization of social processes. The students acquire skills in the analysis and management of the processes taking place in local society1 and in the development of development strategies1 for which there is a noticeably growing demand in research1 public administration1 the civil and non-profit sphere1 and the media.
