M.A Degree in Sociology was introduced in Andhra University in the year 1964 in the Department of Social Work which later became the composite Department of Sociology, Social Work and IRPM. The department was headed by Prof. M.V.Moorthy, an eminent scholar in Sociology and Indology. Prof. Moorthy being a renowned Sanskrit scholar apart from being an acclaimed Sociologist, trained students in Indology.

Candidates seeking admission into the course should have a obtained 3 years Bachelors Degree, Candidates who are joining Masters courses in Andhra University under FOREIGN QUOTA have to enclose two sets of photocopies of following documents:12 years of study at schooling level, Diploma certificate, Bachelors Degree Certificate with transcripts, Transfer Certificate and Migration Certificate, Valid Passport of the student, Scholarship sanctioned letter, Demand Draft for US$50 or equivalent INR
