The University of Andhra is a public university located in Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam. It was set up in 1926. Andhra University was established in 1926 as residential teaching - cum - affiliated university by the Madras University Act to serve the entire linguistic region of Andhra.
Andhra University Programs, Courses and Schools.
There are four constituent colleges in the university. With 28 departments offering 55 courses, the College of Arts and Commerce is the largest constituent college. There are 19 departments at the College of Science and Technology that offer 44 courses. The Engineering College has 16 departments that participate in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The University Grants Commission has identified the College of Law as an advanced centre of law. Courses cover math, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, geology, and geography. Applied sciences such as biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, human genetics, environmental sciences, geophysics, geoengineering, remote sensing, nuclear physics, meteorology, oceanography, nuclear chemistry, environmental chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry are taught at the university.
Andhra University Campuses.
The university is a campus dotted with 121 academic, administrative and support services buildings with a plinth area of about 190,000 square meters and 324 quarters of staff. The university has two sections, the campus of the south and the campus of the north. Together with the administrative block, the south campus houses the departments of Arts, Humanities and Sciences. The Engineering College comprises the north campus. The campus has 19 men's hostels and four women's hostels for 4,300 students. 340 staff quarters units of residential accommodation are available. The university has three health centres, a dispensary for homoeopathy, three guest houses, a faculty club, an open-air theatre, and a university school campus for children.

The 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Andhra University 801 - 1000 worldwide. The 2018 QS World University Rankings ranked it 301 - 350 in Asia. The National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked it 36 overall in India in 2018 and 22 between universities. Also ranked in the pharmacy ranking was the Andhra University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences 28 in India.
