MSc Design and Development of Digital Business

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University College Cork UCC

Program Overview

The MSc in Design and Development of Digital Business at UCC is a one-year, full-time program designed for graduates from non-technical backgrounds who want to enter the technology sector with confidence. It equips students with the creative, technical, and strategic skills to design innovative digital products and services, making it ideal for those eager to combine business insight with digital innovation.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Part I (Knowledge & Skills Foundation)
Students begin by building a strong foundation in both technical and business concepts. Modules such as IS6143 Foundations of Object-Oriented Programming, IS6145 Database Analysis and Design, and IS6133 Interaction Design for a Global Audience introduce programming, data modeling, and user-centered design. Alongside these, courses like IS6100 Sustainable Digital Business Models and IS6127 Systems Analysis ensure students understand how digital businesses operate and innovate. This year emphasizes practical learning through labs, tutorials, and continuous assessment.

Year 1 – Part II (Applied Project)
In the second stage, students work in small groups on the IS6057 Digital Design and Development Project. Guided by mentors, they apply agile and design thinking methods to develop a proof-of-concept digital business solution. This project integrates skills from earlier modules—such as Web Development for Global Markets and Service Design Thinking—into a real-world prototype and business plan. The collaborative, sprint-based approach mirrors industry practice, preparing students for professional roles.

Focus Areas
