Masters in Astrophysics and Cosmology

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Bologna

Program Overview

The specific objective of the second-cycle Master's degree programme in Astrophysics and Cosmology is to provide a solid professional grounding in astronomy, astrophysics and space physics. These fields draw on all the astrophysical information to be had from the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from the radio to the gamma band. Theory is here closely connected with General Relativity, Nuclear Physics and Sub-nuclear Physics. It is also important to get knowledge of the modern observing tools of astronomy and study present-day problem areas of astrophysics. Students will gain enough expertise to go on, if they wish, to a PhD in Astronomy or related subject areas; this is a stepping-stone to fundamental research at the university or a research institute. By way of completing the learning curriculum, out-of-house activities will be arranged, such as internships with companies, public institutions and laboratories, as well as study opportunities with other Italian and foreign universities as part of international agreements. This experience will likewise help students find their feet at work in industry or the service sector.
