University of Granada

Program Overview

The University of Granada is located in the Spanish region with the highest seismic activity, in which some of the most destructive earthquakes in the Iberian Peninsula have occurred, such as those of 1884 and 1956, considered this as the last destructive earthquake happened in Spain. In addition, this region is in the contact of the Eurasian and African plates with one of the most complicated geodynamics on the planet. This situation has led to the operation of a Seismological Observatory in Granada since the beginning of the previous century, which at present has become the Andalusian Institute of Geophysics in which all branches of Geophysics are investigated, from seismology to volcanology , with national and international measurement campaigns.
