Cancer is a health issue present in all forms of society and has been known since antquity. Because of its rates and prevalence in the population, it is a one of the health problems given greatest priority in Health Policy. Following this line, the role of oncological nursing has also evolved, broadening its knowledge in a way that is parallel to the evolution of the general nursing profession and to technological and instrumental developments, risk-factor awareness and health education, as well as reflecting a growing connection with the importance of emotional support and assistance as a tool for attending to patients and their families.
