Master in Biomedical Engineering

18 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Basel

Program Overview

Biomedical Engineering is a rapidly emerging discipline that applies engineering tools and methods to medical diagnostics and treatment. Main goals are to provide better care with less people and to increase cost effectiveness in healthcare systems. Biomedical engineers are engaging for example in digitization, automatization and miniaturization of medical diagnostic and treatment devices. In the first semester, students with a medical background attend courses in mathematics and computational techniques, whereas students with an engineering or a natural science background participate courses in human anatomy and physiology. In the second semester, students follow complementary courses dependent on the chosen major (Biomaterials Science and Nanotechnology or Image-Guided Therapy). The program is completed with a Master s thesis in the third semester.
