Master in Eastern European History

18 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Basel

Program Overview

The master program Eastern European History focuses on a region whose fascinating past opens up a broad and dynamic field of research. By common definition, Eastern Europe reaches from the new member states of the European Union to the eastern border of Russia and includes the countries of Southeastern Europe and the Caucasus. While Eastern Europe used to be often described as a self-contained world beyond the Iron Curtain, today's focus is increasingly on the close political, economic and cultural links between Eastern and Western Europe. The study focuses on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the students can set their own accents regionally and thematically.
