The Roman authors of antiquity and the Latin authors of late antiquity are at the center of Latin studies in Basel. This core area is extended by the Latin literature of post-antiquity, especially the Renaissance and Humanism. On the basis of relevant theories of literary and cultural studies, selected texts from these epochs are interpreted and current research debates are recorded and discussed. The Latinistik understands itself as text science, linguistic aspects complement the curriculum. An indispensable part of the study of Latin philology is also the language education, with a focus on the stylistics of the Latin language.
