Program Overview

The study of French at Master's level deepens the scientific and cultural expertise in the fields of linguistics and literary studies. During the study, students can specialize in one of the two areas. Linguistic topics include the exploration of language in a variety of application and communication modes, oral and written, formal and informal, in a monolingual and multilingual context. One of Basel's specialties is interactional linguistics, in which the use of linguistic resources in social interaction is examined by means of video recordings. The study of French literary studies covers the whole spectrum from the Middle Ages to the present as well as the contemporary literature and culture of the Francophonie.

A bachelor s degree with 180 credit points from a higher education institution recognized by the University of Basel, IELTS of 6.0, TOEFL ibT of 80, English language (level B2 or C1), Letter of Motivation, CV, German Language Proficiency.
