Program Overview

The Gr zistik deals with the edition, interpretation and reception of the texts of Greek literature. It includes language and literature studies and is committed to an opening to cultural studies. That is, it includes the life of antiquity in all essential manifestations. For state, religion, philosophy and art, together with Greek language and literature, form the basis of European culture to this day. Subject of the subject, which is characterized by the historical-critical method, is the textual legacy of Greek antiquity from its beginnings (late 8th century BC) to late antiquity (6th century AD). In the master's program, the main works of Greek literature and philosophy are analyzed according to content, form, impact, literary and cultural scientific criteria as well as cultural-historical significance.

Additional Information & Requirements

A Bachelor's degree is required in the field of Ancient Studies with a focus on Greek Studies at the University of Basel or equivalent in the field of classical philology, provided at a university recognized by the University of Basel, of which 9 credits (CP) in Greek language training and grammar 12 credits must have been acquired in Greek literature and literary history, IELTS of 6.0, TOEFL ibT of 80, English language (level B2 or C1), Letter of Motivation, CV, German Language Proficiency.
