Master in Nordic Studies

18 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Basel

Program Overview

Scandinavia is not only fascinated by spectacular landscapes, but also by its influential popular culture, ranging from children's books and thrillers to ABBA and Mando Diao to Arne Jacobsen and Ikea. The study of Nordic Studies provides direct access to the languages, literatures and cultures (including film, art, music theater, media, etc.) of the countries Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Faroe Islands and the Swedish-speaking areas of Finland. At Master's level, apart from the deepening of the language skills, the focus is on scientific and research-based analysis of medieval and modern Scandinavian literature. The manageable size of the Nordistik Seminar in Basel enables intensive contact between students and lecturers.
