Program Overview

The master's program at the Department of History in Basel is research-oriented. It stimulates the development of independent interests of the students, supports their independent scientific activity, combines them with the demand for methodological-theoretical reflection and creates links to historically oriented professional and practical fields. In seminars and research seminars Master's students deal with different epochs, topics and research approaches. Exercises or internships bring them closer to scientific research debates or research-related occupational fields. About colloquia and study days they are involved in the doctoral program of the Basel Graduate School of History. The focus of the Master's education is the independent research work in the form of the Master's thesis; In doing so, the students are closely and bindingly accompanied by lecturers from the department.

A Bachelor's degree in History of the University of Basel or with proof of equivalent academic achievement, provided at a university recognized by the University of Basel, IELTS of 6.0, TOEFL ibT of 80, English language (level B2 or C1), Letter of Motivation, CV, German Language Proficiency.
