Program Overview

The focus of Classical Archeology is on the material legacy of the Mediterranean and its adjoining areas from prehistory to late antiquity, characterized by Greek and Roman culture. It digs out, identifies the finds, treats them scientifically and secures their availability for future generations through restoration, archiving or museum presentation. In addition to the formal and contextual analysis of the monuments, great importance is attached to the understanding of the ancient pictorial world from an artistic and cultural-historical point of view. The material legacy of the Greco-Roman world is not understood as a self-contained system, but as part of a network.

Additional Information & Requirements

A bachelor's degree with a subject in Ancient History with a focus on Classical Archeology at the University of Basel or equivalent academic achievements in the field of Archeology, provided at a university recognized by the University of Basel, is required, IELTS of 6.0, TOEFL ibT of 80, English language (level B2 or C1), Letter of Motivation, CV, German Language Proficiency.
