Master in Prehistoric and Provincial Roman Archeology

18 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Basel

Program Overview

Prehistoric and early archeology explores societies from written and written epochs, whereby the temporal perspective extends from the beginnings of human history to the early Middle Ages. Their material legacy gained through excavations serves as sources for the study of the way of life and culture of the respective societies. These include in particular artifacts, soil structures and ruins. The second focus of the Master's program is Provincial Roman Archeology. It deals with finds and findings in the Roman provinces and - like prehistoric and early archeology - focuses on the study of everyday life as well as the change and persistence of the population. Here, too, the remnants of material culture are the crucial source of knowledge. The spatial focus in both areas is on Switzerland and its wider geographical environment.
