MSc Clinical Health Psychology

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Middlesex University Dubai

Program Overview

Middlesex University offers the MSc Clinical Health Psychology, a one-year fast-track programme to equip students with a deep understanding of the application of psychological principles to physical health and well-being. The programme bridges the gap between physical health and mental health by focusing on how medical conditions are influenced by emotional, cognitive, and behavioural factors and how these factors influence patient care. In addition to advanced theoretical knowledge, students gain the competence to apply psychological models in real-life healthcare settings, positioning them for productive careers in both clinical practice and research.

Curriculum Structure:
The curriculum is designed with careful attention to blend scholarly knowledge and application. It includes:
Core Clinical Health Psychology Modules: Covering topics of psychological assessment, management of chronic illness, altering health behaviour, and patient-centred care.
Research Methods and Statistics: Developing sound research competencies in order to critically evaluate studies and conduct independent research projects.
Professional Practice and Ethics: Stressing ethical issues and professional practice in healthcare environments.
Clinical Placement or Applied Project: Offering students hands-on experience in clinical environments or the opportunity to conduct supervised applied research that is relevant to healthcare practice.
Dissertation: A substantial piece of research work in which students investigate a personally chosen topic in clinical health psychology with supervision from experienced supervisors.

Accreditation:
The programme is designed to meet British Psychological Society (BPS) standards, equipping graduates with a solid foundation for further training towards HCPC-registered status as practitioners (Health and Care Professions Council) or further doctoral level qualifications.

Campus Location:
Middlesex University's busy Hendon campus in London offers students the opportunity to study with access to up-to-date facilities, state-of-the-art research laboratories, specialist psychology testing rooms, and first-class library facilities. Being based in London also provides an advantage of proximity to some of the UK's top-ranked healthcare organizations and professional networks.

Participation in Research: Students participate in faculty-supervised research activities to contribute to major studies that influence modern clinical practice.
Workshops and Seminars: Regular skill development workshops on patient communication, multidisciplinary team working, and psychological interventions.
Professional Networking: Guest lectures and events by experienced clinicians and researchers are arranged by the university, where students can develop helpful industry contacts.
