Msc Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management

1 Years On Campus Masters Program

University College London

Program Overview

The MSc Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management at UCL brings together advanced bioscience knowledge with business, leadership, and strategic decision-making — perfect if you want to shape the future of healthcare and life sciences. It’s designed for science graduates or early-career professionals looking to step confidently into managerial, commercial, or innovation-driven roles within the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.

Curriculum Structure

Term 1

Your first term builds a strong foundation in how the biotech and pharma industries operate. You’ll explore Pharmaceutical and Biotech Policies and Managerial Practices, develop your analytical skills through Introduction to Clinical Trial Designs and Statistical Analysis, and gain a deeper understanding of value assessment with Pharmacoeconomics. Together, these modules help you understand how medicines are developed, regulated, evaluated, and brought to market.

Term 2

In the second term, the programme shifts toward strategy, leadership, and commercial decision-making. Core modules such as Pharma Commercialisation and Marketing and Healthcare Supply Chain Management show you how companies successfully launch products and manage global operations. You’ll also tailor your studies by choosing between Entrepreneurial Finance or Capital & Equity Markets, and between Commercialisation of Research Ideas or Initiating a Pharmaceutical Start-Up, depending on whether you’re drawn more to entrepreneurship or corporate environments.

Term 3

Your final term brings everything together through two major projects. The group Business Project lets you collaborate with classmates to develop and pitch a strategic business case. Alongside it, your individual Research Project allows you to dive deeper into a topic that interests you — combining scientific understanding with business insight to address real-world challenges in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.

Reputation (employability rankings)

UCL consistently ranks among the world’s top universities, recognised globally for excellence in health, science, and innovation. Graduates from this programme have progressed into roles at major pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organisations, global consultancies, and leading biotech firms.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What makes this programme stand out is how practical and hands-on it feels from day one. Instead of simply learning concepts, you’ll constantly apply them to real industry situations through workshops, case discussions, and collaborative projects. The programme is taught at UCL East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park — a modern, innovative campus designed to feel more like a professional environment than a traditional classroom.

A major highlight is the Term 3 business project, where you and your team develop a complete strategy for a biotech or pharmaceutical product. You’ll map out the market, understand the stakeholders, and pitch your plan just as you would in a real organisation. What makes this even more valuable is the guidance you receive from an industry mentor, who supports your team and offers insight from their own professional experience.

Alongside this, you complete an individual research project, giving you the chance to explore a topic that genuinely interests you — whether that’s technology, strategy, or healthcare innovation. Weekly group tutorials, case-based seminars, and project development workshops help you build confidence in presenting, analysing data, shaping arguments, and working effectively as part of a team.

The facilities at UCL East add to the experience. The Marshgate building offers bright, collaborative learning spaces, modern classrooms, and dedicated study areas where you can work closely with classmates and faculty. Altogether, the programme gives you the kind of learning environment that feels dynamic, supportive, and closely aligned with the real world of biotech and pharmaceutical management.
