1 Year On Campus Masters Program

The University of Sheffield

Program Overview

The MA Landscape Design, Planning and Management at the University of Sheffield is a rigorous, one‑year, on‑campus master’s designed to deepen your knowledge of landscape architecture through a research-driven lens. It is especially well suited for students who have a background in landscape, planning, ecology, or design, and who want to build advanced academic and professional skills for working globally.

Curriculum Structure

This one-year program is designed as an intensive journey through landscape research, design, and management. In the first semester, you explore Landscape Research as Creative Practice and Advanced Landscape Design, building skills in critical analysis and strategic design thinking. Midway, you focus on preparing your independent research project with guidance on methodology and project planning. The year culminates in a Final Landscape Project and Dissertation, where you translate your ideas into a fully developed design outcome and comprehensive research study. Along the way, professional practice and technical skills are woven into the program, preparing you for the realities of the landscape sector.

Focus Areas

Landscape design, strategic planning, environmental management, creative research, professional practice, global and local contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to conduct independent, evidence‑based research, develop strategic or site-based landscape design proposals, and navigate the professional landscape architecture sector — legally, ethically and creatively.
