Reputation & Strengths

The university is well regarded for teaching and student experience, and the course is taught in a purpose-built studio environment that supports creative collaboration and professional-level work.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What makes the MArch Architecture Part 2 at the University of Greenwich stand out is how deeply hands-on it is. You won’t just learn concepts — you’ll actually practise architecture every day, working in purpose-built studios, experimenting with ideas, and developing designs the same way professionals do. Your learning happens inside the award-winning Stockwell Street Building, where studios, workshops and digital tools are all in one place, so you can move from sketching to model-making to digital design without breaking flow.

To show exactly how practice-based the course is, here’s what you’ll have access to:

  • Dedicated architecture studios and collaborative design spaces — the centre of your learning, where design proposals develop through one-to-one and group tutorials.

  • Digital modelling and representation facilities — including industry-standard software for architectural visualisation, modelling and design.

  • Integrated studio projects every year — instead of exams, you’ll work on large design briefs that mimic real architectural work from concept to technical resolution.

  • A specialised “Design Unit” of your choice — so you can work in a studio aligned with your interests, such as sustainable design, conceptual architecture or urban-focused work.

  • Individual thesis or major project in the final year — an opportunity to create a signature piece of work that represents your design identity and helps you stand out to employers.

The combination of studio culture, hands-on facilities and project-based learning makes the course feel remarkably close to real architectural practice — and that means you graduate with genuine confidence and readiness for the profession.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of the MArch Architecture Part 2 at the University of Greenwich step into roles where they can shape buildings, cities and spaces in a real, practical way. Many move directly into architectural practice, while others specialise in areas like sustainable design, urban design or architectural research. The degree gives you the professional grounding and confidence to enter the field with a strong portfolio and a recognised qualification.

You’ll be well supported as you prepare for your next step — here’s what that looks like in reality:

  • Dedicated Careers & Employability support — personalised career guidance, portfolio and CV support, interview preparation and alumni networking are available to you during your studies and for two years after graduation.

  • Positive graduate outcomes — a strong proportion of Greenwich graduates enter highly skilled jobs, reflecting the university’s emphasis on employability and real-world preparation.

  • Competitive early-career earning potential — graduates from Architecture, Building and Planning subjects at Greenwich report a healthy median salary roughly 15 months after completing their degree.

  • Accredited route toward professional registration — completing this MArch counts as your recognised Part 2 qualification, a crucial step on the pathway to becoming a fully registered architect.

  • Strong connection to industry expectations — the programme is designed around contemporary architectural practice, meaning the work you produce and the portfolio you build are directly relevant to what employers are looking for.

Further Academic Progression:
After finishing the MArch Part 2, students can continue into doctoral research (PhD) in architecture or related specialisms such as sustainable design, heritage conservation, urban design or architectural theory. Others choose to pursue additional qualifications that support their professional pathway — for example, the Professional Practice (Part 3) route to complete full architectural registration.
