Program Overview

The MArch Architecture at Manchester equips you with the skills and creativity to become a professional architect. Over two years, you’ll combine hands-on design studios with research and collaboration to tackle real-world architectural challenges.

Curriculum Structure

Year  1
You’ll start by exploring design through core studios, focusing on both technical and conceptual skills. Modules like Architect in Studio: Strategy and Architect as Researcher help you build a solid foundation in design thinking, collaboration, and professional practice.

Year  2
In your second year, you have more freedom to define your own architectural path through chosen studios and an independent research project. You’ll refine your design identity, innovate with complex projects, and produce a dissertation that showcases your skills and vision.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

Further Academic Progression:
Students can continue with doctoral research (PhD/MPhil) in architecture, urbanism, or related fields, or pursue specialised master’s programs in areas like heritage, landscape, or digital design.

Additional Information & Requirements

You will normally have at least an upper second class undergraduate UK honours degree in architecture from a RIBA School

You will also need to have completed at least six months work in an architectural practice or a related built environment design field, a well-built portfolio is also required

IELTS: overall score of 6.5 with no less than 6.5 in any category, TOEFL iBT: Minimum 88 overall, with no less than 21 in each component

For India: A three-year bachelor’s degree with First Class—typically 60–80% overall—from a recognised university is required for postgraduate entry

For USA: A minimum GPA of 3.0, preferably 3.3 or above
